Work in itself is not a silly concept. Life in Cockayne where every whim and desire is instantly fulfilled could quickly turn out to be a rather unpleasant affair. In the very least it would lead to obesity and type-2 diabetes.
On the other hand, strife and hard labor for little reward are not quite as desireable as a pietistic mindset might make them out to be.
With age comes wisdom and (or so they say) and I have come to the conclusion that while, yes, work is in fact desirable, work satisfaction far surpasses income, status, and power.
